The day after we had left Mount Everest Base Camp and arrived at Dram (Zhangmu), the border with Nepal, we woke up early and crossed the border with Nepal. However, our Chinese friend Echo was not allowed by the officials to cross with us. After a few hours of 'negotiating' I managed to get her across the border and she could again join us. We hired a Bolero 4x4 and headed for Kathmandu, along the Nepalese part of the Friendship Highway. However, parts of it had been blocked the other night due to landslides, but by the time we were driving, all roads had been more or less cleared. The ride was really fantastic. There was so much to see and it was all so different from Tibet! The entry to the city of Kathmandu, the country's capital, was really catastrophic, but very interesting indeed.
